The Zimnyaya Hotel is located on Valaam Island in the northern part of Lake Ladoga, the largest in the Valaam Archipelago. It is a popular tourist destination in Russia.
The Zimnyaya Hotel is located on Valaam Island in the northern part of Lake Ladoga, the largest in the Valaam Archipelago. This is a popular tourist destination in Russia, as approximately 100 thousand pilgrims and tourists visit Valaam every year, and the monastery hotels can accommodate around 200 people at a time. The hotel, recognized as a federal cultural heritage site, is located in the central estate in close proximity to the Valaam Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery. An alley goes from the Znamenskaya Chapel to the Zimnyaya (Winter) Hotel built by architect A.M. Gornostayev in 1854. Two wings were added to the two-storey hotel in 1874, and at the end of the 19th century, the third floor was built to house the Academy of Arts' school later. The building received its final look in 1900. On 1 May 2016, a fire started in the hotel. The fire and water caused severe damage leading to a partial collapse of the roof of more than 1000 sq m and floor slabs; several floors were damaged, including the attic of the central building and the southern part of the hotel. All utilities were completely destroyed. The project provided for the restoration and adaptation of the hotel building with a total area of 9314.41 sq m for present-day needs. The five-storey building, including the basement and the attic and underground facilities, was redesigned without altering the historical structure. TASK SET BY THE CUSTOMER Capital restoration and renovation of the hotel damaged by fire, including leveling the walls in the rooms, laying a semi-dry screed in common areas, bonding insulation, waterproofing and installing ceramic and porcelain tiles in showers and public spaces. |
