Mapei for culture: a passion that has lasted since 1937
Mapei is proudly involved in the project to enhance the southern ambulatories of the Colosseum, one of the most iconic monuments in the world.
Mapei for Culture is much more than a name, it is a value. From the works at La Scala Theatre in Milan and the Petruzzelli Theatre in Bari, to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, to the restoration of the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris and the recovery of the archaeological site of Hegra in Saudi Arabia: these are just some of the projects Mapei has supported over the last 20 years. Today Mapei is proudly involved in the project to enhance the southern ambulatories of the Colosseum, one of the most iconic monuments in the world.
Mapei for Culture is much more than a name, it is a value. It represents the company's constant commitment to preserving and promoting the Italian and international architectural heritage, supporting important cultural institutions.
Innovation with respect for tradition is the guiding principle that leads Mapei to offer expertise, technologies and solutions to enhance the artistic and monumental heritage.
Founded in Milan in 1937, Mapei has always had a special relationship with the city, promoting the growth and development of the monuments dearest to the Milanese: the Duomo and La Scala Theatre, of which it has been a supporter since 1984 and a Permanent Founder since 2008. Between 2001 and 2004, the company played a key role in the restoration and expansion of the theatre, under the guidance of architect Mario Botta, supporting numerous concerts and cultural events over the years.
After joining the 'Adopt a Spire' initiative, in 2022 Mapei joined the 'Adopt a Statue' project by supporting the restoration of a statue of the cathedral depicting David with a harp currently housed in its headquarters in Viale Jenner, thus confirming its bond with this iconic city symbol.

Mapei's technical contribution to recovery and restoration projects has often led to lasting partnerships. In 2008, the company took part in the restoration of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York and, later, in the redevelopment of the 18th century Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, home of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, thus becoming part of the Guggenheim Intrapresæ project, and supporting numerous initiatives, such as the purchase of an advanced optical microscope for art restoration.

With a firm commitment to preserving culture, Mapei offered its expertise free of charge to create a special membrane against water infiltration at the Castel Nuovo in Naples, a symbol of the city. Between 2022 and 2024, the company contributed to the restoration of the Notre-Dame Cathedral, devastated by fire in 2019, by developing innovative solutions for the consolidation of vaults and roofs.
For years, Mapei has looked at the Middle East with not only commercial but also cultural interest. This is evident in its participation in the AlUla project, dedicated to the recovery of an archaeological area of over 20,000 km², with one of its main centres in Hegra, the first UNESCO site in Saudi Arabia. The Hegra Conservation Project aims to preserve a unique historical area with tombs dating back 2,000 years. Mapei was chosen for its expertise in the development of innovative products and advanced technologies used to analyse the materials collected on site by the restorers.

Today Mapei is proudly involved in the project to enhance the southern ambulatories of the Colosseum, one of the most iconic monuments in the world. Love for art, history and culture continue to guide company's commitment to the protection and recovery of the global cultural and historical heritage.
