Mapei is awarded a Certificate of Technical Assessment for their PLANITOP HPC solutions with FRC technology for structural strenghtening applications

Leader in the sector, Mapei has been awarded a CVT - Certificato di Valutazione Tecnica (Certificate of Technical Assessment) for their range of fibre-reinforced products for structural applications

August 7, 2020

In the field of solutions available for reinforced concrete, Mapei has been awarded a CVT for their PLANITOP HPC range with FRC technology (Fibre Reinforced Concrete), particularly recommended for repairing and strengthening structures by applying compact layers of product without the need for traditional steel reinforcement.

This recognition makes Mapei the first manufacturer of fibre-reinforced solutions for structural strengthening applications to have been awarded a CVT by the Central Technical Service of Italy’s Supreme Council for Public Works and the only one to offer a complete range of FRC products certified for use in repair work on concrete and for structural applications.

PLANITOP HPC Range

This is a family of mortars and micro-concretes classified as HPFRCC (High Performance Fibre-Reinforced Cement Composites) made up of a cementitious matrix with particularly high mechanical properties (HPC) and structural steel fibres (FRC) that give the product a high level of ductility and tenacity and improved mechanical properties during the plastic (post-cracking) phase.

The fibres contained in PLANITOP HPC mortars and micro-concretes replace (either partially or completely) traditional rebar normally positioned inside structural elements, thereby making rebar either partially or completely redundant.

PLANITOP HPC solutions are recommended for repair and strengthening work on reinforced concrete structures such as beams, columns and beam-column points, to strengthen the extrados of floor slabs, to repair floors and surfaces for use in industrial surroundings, for roads and in airports and, lastly, to rebuild structural elements in various types of structure.

Going into more detail:

PLANITOP HPC is a two-component, free-flowing, high-fluidity, compensated-shrinkage cementitious mortar recommended for jacketing columns and beams by applying the product in compact layers.

PLANITOP HPC FLOOR is a one-component, high-fluidity, compensated-shrinkage cementitious mortar. It is applied in compact layers as part of systems to strengthen the extrados of floor slabs.

PLANITOP HPC FLOOR T is a one-component, semi-fluid, compensated-shrinkage cementitious mortar and is usually applied in compact layers as part of systems to strengthen the extrados of wooden floor slabs (often deformed).

PLANITOP HPC FLOOR 46 is a fluid-consistency, high-ductility cementitious concrete. It is recommended for strengthening the extrados of floor slabs, jacketing columns and beams when thicker layers of product are required (up to 8 cm) and, lastly, for strengthening reinforced concrete elements in various types of infrastructure.

PLANITOP HPC FLOOR 46 T is a semi-fluid, high-ductility cementitious concrete recommended for strengthening the extrados of wooden floor slabs (often deformed) when thicker layers of product are required (up to 8 cm) and for strengthening reinforced concrete elements in various types of infrastructure.

The PLANITOP HPC solutions mentioned above have numerous benefits and advantages:

  • less mass and load added to the original structure: by reducing or completely eliminating traditional steel reinforcement, there is less additional load from the intervention;
  • minimum impact from an architectural point of view thanks to less space being required and, when repairing or restoring floor slabs, optimisation of the design of the various layers (heating systems, soundproofing, flooring materials, etc.);
  • lower amount of materials need to be handled, mixed and applied;
  • reduction in overall time required for positioning traditional rebar;
  • strengthening work can be carried out more quickly: formwork may be stripped after just 48 hours.
